Yoon-herty! TONIGHT!

yoon-erty

Tonight, friends, we rage for change.

Not only does the evening mark DJ Kon’s triumphant return behind the decks in his beloved hometown, this is the first big step towards bringing Boston nightlife into the 21st century with the Michael Flaherty / Sam Yoon Mayoral ticket. For a meager $10 you’re all set for an appetizer and cocktail reception from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. before Kon and our dude Texas Mike tear shit up ’til 2:00 a.m. It all goes down at Boston’s Underbar, 275 Tremont Street, one of our favorite jam spots in town. This is bound to be the most bitchin’ fundraiser we’ve attended since selling keg cups for bail money back in the hazy college days, and we would love to see all of our Boston cats out there on the floor with us!

R.S.V.P. to futureclassic.net to avoid all of that “waiting in line” bullshit and get ready for a revolutionary night!

NYC Tonight! A Frank151 / SneakTip Production

CMJsneaktip

Attention, New York City Gritty Committee!

As you may have noticed by the swarms of hipsters and wide-eyed optimists infesting the city this week… oh, that’s right – you’re from New York and couldn’t give a shit even if you did notice. And that’s why we love you so. Regardless, the annual CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival is flooding your boroughs with fresh live music and crazy flicks from Tuesday, October 20th through Saturday, October 24th and our Brooklyn dons SneakTip and L.E.S.’ finest at Frank151 are getting the party started right with a hip hop showcase throwing down tonight.

In partnership with ihiphop.com and FrankRadio, it all goes down at one of our favorite venues, Southpaw, 125 Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn, featuring performances by the legendary Grand Puba of Brand NubianU-God of the Wu and up-and-comer Wiz Khalifa, with support from Trouble Andrew, Mr. Move, Stalley, Jasmine Solano and sounds by DJ Souljah. It goes without stating, but you know how the Frank151 crew and SneakTip gets down – this event will be packed to the walls and our dudes are bound to bring out some special guests for this 10th Anniversary jam with more dope giveaways than your dealer’s Going to Jail Sale.

Click the flyer above to get your tickets, and get on that quick because this epic is definitely going to sell out. The CMJ Marathon has featured legends Eminem, M.I.A., Nirvana, White Stripes, Q-Tip, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Run-DMC and the Mars Volta at past festivals, and believe us, the last thing you want to miss is our man Khalifa marking his name on that list for this time next year.

See you there, suckas!

DJ Kon is Back with a Vengence!

kon

Our good dude DJ Kon is back in good health and spirits, and his first official return performance will help bring Boston into the 21st Century through the power of bass!

As a veteran of Boston nightlife helping tear shit up at Thunderdome and scattered clubs across the Hub, Kon knows a thing or two about current Mayor Menino’s ridiculous measures to keep the city’s Blue Laws in effect. What better way for him to get back on the scene than to support the progressive Michael Flaherty / Sam Yoon ticket?

Next Thursday, October 22nd, Kon and DJ Texas Mike join forces with Karmaloop to support the Flaherty/Yoon ticket with a fundraiser at Underbar Super Lounge. Following a VIP cocktail and appetizer reception from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., the shit goes down for a ridiculous, recession-friendly $10 admittance highlighted by Kon getting back behind the decks where he belongs.

Now, you know how Kon events go down – heads packed to the sweat-drenched walls and filled with enough energy to keep this city lit up for weeks. That said, Underbar’s Super Lounge is super-small so space will be super-limited. To make sure you’re a part of this landmark occasion, the return of Kon and to help defeat the evil forces of Menino and his pilgrim-era mentalities, r.s.v.p. to futureclassic.net before you’re left out in the cold… and it has been getting mighty chilly here in Boston the last couple weeks.

Tomorrow, We Rally.

FRONTWEB

BACKWEB

Boston cats, we need your help!

Boston Mayoral race candidate Michael Flaherty and his running mate, Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon, are holding a rally at Boston City Hall Plaza tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 10:30 a.m.  We need all of our Boston peoples to come out and spread love, support the cause and show a unified stance for what we believe is the winning ticket in this crucial election.

Former Ambassador to the Holy See and Boston Mayor Ray Flynn (1984-1993 – “the glory days,” our ol’ man says) and his one-time political nemesis, founder of the South End Technology Center and former MIT professor, author, activist and community organizer Mel King will officially endorse the Flaherty/Yoon ticket, and with just two weeks left until election day, the time for action is now! Heed the call and let your voices be heard tomorrow morning!

Furthermore, there are flyers (seen above), posters and voter registration forms at the Karmaloop office and we would love for some of our local fam to volunteer and spread the word for a better city to live, work and play in – feel free to contact the blog (andrew@karmaloop.com) and we’ll get you set up with an arsenal of awareness to spread throughout the Hub.

If you live in the city of Boston and are not registered to vote, please click one of the banners above and get started – remember, if you don’t vote, you’re not allowed to complain!

A Message to You, Boston –

FRONTWEB

BACKWEB

Dear Boston,

These are a few things that we really hate about you – no, no, no, please don’t cry. We’re only telling you this because we love you. We want to help you improve yourself, baby, help you keep friends around longer and more so than anything – we want to love you even more.

Now. First things first. Fuck all of this “bars close at two o’clock” bullshit. Hey, our good friend New York is allowed to stay out until 4:00 a.m.! Boston, you’re just as mature as that slutty metropolis, so what gives? Let’s beat this early-to-bed curfew and keep shit poppin’!

Second of all, and here’s a real “what the fuck?!” – if you insist on closing at down and getting tucked in by 2:00 a.m., then why does your public transportation stop barely past midnight? What are you, fucking insane? Do you hate greener transportation methods and love drunk drivers, expensive taxicabs, street fights and/or forcing people to walk home (by the way, do you even realize how brutal that is with three feet of fucking snow on the ground)? Stop being so lousy with the alternative transportation – again, we hate to drag New York into this again, but… they, uh, they run subway trains and the bus all night. Just sayin’. Cheaper cabs, too.

Guess what else we hate? Yeah, you got it – there is NO SUCH THING AS DINING AFTER 1:00 A.M. HERE. Are you an economy-phobe, too? Do you hate the thought of local merchants making some extra coin, thus putting a little bit back into your pockets, helping the city-wide economy at the same time? Hey, we forgot to mention that about the bars, clubs and nightspots – the later they stay open, the more money is in it for you as well. Ah… now you’re listening. Good.

Anyways Boston, we don’t want to beat you down with complaints all at once (we have lives, too), so we’re going to break this gripe session up and scatter our complaints from now until November 3rd, when your wonderful residents will get an opportunity to VOTE and make a difference here. It’s not that difficult, all they gotta do is click one of the banners above to register and vote in the upcoming Mayoral election – it doesn’t matter who they vote for, all that matters is that they actually get out there and do it – save the date, and start making change. We’re overdue, Boston. Time to catch up to that troublemaker New York.

The crazy motherfuckers at SWEAT and Karmaloop are joining forces for one night every month with fresh new themes for each event, featuring nightly giveaways, insane props and dangerous sets from the hottest talent around. What’s more, this motherfucker is FREE before 11:00 p.m. with an RSVP at http://www.sweatboston.com – for all of you ballahz out there that insist on throwing money around like it’s an STD, come after 11:00 p.m. for just $5. This shit WILL sell out, so get there early or log your répondez s’il vous plaîts as fast as your dirty little fingers will allow.

It all goes down at The Good Life, 28 Kingston Street in Boston, Massachusetts with doors at 10:00 p.m. – no barely-legals this time, so be 21 or older; sorry, kiddies. And dress steeeeeezy for shutterbug extraordinare Nikki Muse, because everyone’s sick of seeing your terrible self-portraits on Facebook.

A Benefit for DJ Kon

KON

Hey, remember that time a DJ saved your life?

Well, for all of our cats in New York City (and the brave ones in Boston willing to Fung Wah-down for the night), it’s time to return the favor.

The legendary DJ Kon – a Boston native and true originator of the scene, influencing DJs worldwide including Bobito, DJ Soul and the one and only DJ Premier – has fallen under the weather, and like most musicians, does not have health insurance in order to pay for upcoming operations and hospital stays. Boston has been throwing benefit jams throughout the past few weeks to help our dude out, and in true NYC fashion, Gotham is staging a benefit of epic proportions tomorrow night, Thursday, September 10th.

It all goes down at Santos Party House, 100 Lafayette Street, Manhattan from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. with ALL proceeds going directly to Kon. For Just $10, not only would you be helping out one of the greatest DJs of our generation, but you will also witness insane sets from the likes of DJs Spinna, Rich Medina,  Eli, Cosmo, Scratch and Amir. That’s one ridiculous line-up, but we’re not surprised in the least given the amount of great friends Kon has made throughout the years.

Please try your best to swing through and help out, or if a NYC night-trip is out of the question, click the flyer above for information on making a donation via PayPal. Every little bit counts, and after that, it’s only a matter of time before we’re collectively screaming “KOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNN!” at the top of our lungs once again.
