Hey Folks,
Give thanks for another Monday. How many of you remember doing arts and crafts at summer camp or an after school program? Did you ever think these skills would be fashionable and make tons of money in the future? While many of us forgot those skills years ago, one clothing and accessory line, Flashback Kidz, is using their creative gifts to create some dope accessories that provide that old school look which has become popular nowadays. Beyond creating crafty and artistic accessories, Flasback Kidz dabbles in several other creative fashion.
Enough of the talk, read the interview and check out the pictures to see how the designer took her work with kids and made it into a classic and original brand.
- Leandrew Robinson
1.) Where are you from? What do you do for a living?
I am from Knoxville, TN. I am the creator of the Flashback Kidz necklace & t-shirt line. I am also a middle/high school coordinator for a leadership program within an inner city community.
2.) What kind of product do you produce?
I produce necklaces & T-shirts
3.) It seems like your creation of your product is very unique, when did you learn this craft? When did you get involved with selling it to people?
I have always been creative and hands on, but I discovered this particular craft several years ago while doing arts and crafts with the youth I work with. I started selling these necklaces about 5 months ago. I also paint cassette tapes and sneakers.
4.) Check out a few of the hot designs after the jump…
(Flashback Kidz)

Transformers Chains - Vibrant, fresh colors! Transformers defines current style. A retro cartoon that has come back bigger and better to recapture our hearts (Transformers, the movie), just like our skinny jeans, colorful kicks and crazy haircuts has made its way back from the 80′s.

Mario and Luigi – Unquestionably, two of the most recognizable video characters ever!

African Hope Chain – For years I pondered ideas and ways I could help support the efforts in Africa. I wanted to send money, I wanted to start a group… proceeds, support africa, retro, retro era, I even wanted to visit. I am also a firm believer in using your God-given gifts and talents to help others. I created this chain to represent the Hope, to help us remember our responsibility to those in need, and offer support financially. Part of the proceeds of each Africa Hope chain is donated to an organization that supports Africa.
5.) What kinds of influences are reflected in what you produce?
Retro Era has had the largest impact on my products. The vibrant colors and fresh designs are intriguing and reflective of my personal style. Futuristic design elements are also reflected in the Flashbackkidz line.
6.) You are consistently moving product, how do you attract/market to potential customers?
Yes, we are starting to get exposure internationally and domestically. We attract people through social networks such as MySpace and Twitter, word of mouth, we also sponsor several crews, and are currently collaborating with a designer to the stars.
7.) What are your opinions of the new Karmaswap? How do you see this affecting streetwear culture?
I owe many thanks to Karmaswap. Within hours of my products being placed on the site, I had multiple sales. The site is user friendly and a great way to market new and used products. I am not located in a fashion forward city, Karmaloop has introduced me to many urban/streetwear brands.
All items you saw can be purchased at Karmaswap. Search by Store and find Flashback Kidz – your new favorite jewelry line. Keep spreading the word and sell some of your shit!

Designers Vincent and Mike of Triumvir infamy come back to Karmaloop with the sixth installment of their Caked Out line, featuring some of the craziest tees we’ve seen in a minute, as well as a tribute to Michael Jackson that was released with unfortunate, yet perfect timing.

“Black or white, guilty or not guilty, in heaven or on earth, there can only be one,” said Vincent of The Who’s Bad Tee. “The design idea came about as us being fans of his music, and with the controversy surrounding him, it’s easy to misinterpret this design as simply making fun of the legend. But taking note of his lifetime of success, we feel that no matter what anyone says, he’s one man, it was his life and he’s simply the King of Pop.”
Taking cue from last year’s NBA Championship Playoffs “There Can Only Be One” marketing campaign, the Caked Out twist presents Off The Wall-era Mike contrasted with a recent picture, proving that M.J. was just one man, one King. Rest in peace.

The It’s the Shoes Tee had us dying out here when this drop came in, and that was before Vincent gave us the run down on the thoughts behind the print, featuring a broke, bummy Monopoly Man rocking a set of high-tops.
“The majority of streetwear consumers are usually broke because they save money up or go from paycheck to paycheck just to get their fix on sneakers,” Vincent explained, before admitting, “Take it from me – my garage is a constant reminder of how much money I could have had if I didn’t compile a mountain of sneakers.”

A tribute to Ice Cube’s role in John Singleton’s epic Boyz N the Hood, the namesake Doughboy Tee features Cube in his jheri-curled glory circa 1991, with the graphic composed of lettering that spells out “Doughboy.” As a tagline for the brand, be sure to peep The DBN Tee as well, an homage to Jersey’s Naughty By Nature. That’s right – coast to coast, Caked Out knows, shows and cares about what’s going on in the ‘hood.
That’s just a sample of the madness Caked Out brought back to Karmaloop for the summer. Don’t get caught slippin’ and check out the rest of the line here, and check in with the Caked Out crew to see what these dudes are cooking up next.

There are situations in life when individual standouts simply do not belong together – for instance, Kobe and Shaq on the same team, fish-flavored ice cream, or a Benny Hill soundtrack dubbed over Friday the 13th.
Such is the case with something we call "overcoordination." Matching a tee with your sneakers, or a hat with a belt and so on and so forth is all well and good – encouraged, even – but a line has to be drawn somewhere. Therefore, as a public service to our lovely, faithful readers (that's you), here is an example of an outfit not unlike one that we saw on our lunch break this afternoon.
It's plain to see that each item in and of itself is dope enough to be sold by the gram, but too much of a good thing can lead to a bad time for all – remember, you're assaulting our poor eyes as well. So please be mindful of your peers this weekend, imbibe in relative moderation and coordinate responsibly. And check out the latest Karmaloop goodness here!
